(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Apple iMac MC812LL/A 21.5 Inch Desktop (NEWEST VERSION) (Personal Computers) My old PC was over four years old and just not keeping up any more. I did not think about to get a Mac till I’d kicked around the idea of learning iOS programming which requires OSX. After looking at the prices of these computers I balked, I could build a bleeding edge “Hackintosh” for what they asked and still have money left over! A little research into installing OSX onto a non Apple machine nipped that in the bud, it looks more headache than it is worth. So I sucked it up and bought an iMac and wow am I happy I did. The specifications may not be top of the line, but everything else about this computer is!
First, the hardware. The screen is the most clearly amazing thing here, it makes the nice Viewsonic monitors on my Windows box look washed out and blurry in comparison. Colors are vibrant, text is crisp, pixels are almost invisible. If you are deciding between this and the bigger iMacs, the 21″ looks big on my desk and I can not imagine how monstrous the 27″ could be! Processing power is stellar, it is been able to take everything I have thrown at it so far if it is games or video stuff or anything else. The Magic Mouse is an surprise, I never thought I’d be impressed by a mouse but this little thing is very cool gestures and scrolling without wheels and buttons has not gotten old still.
The software is excellent also. I have been a Windows man as long as I have been a computer user and I took to OSX now, as though I’d been an old pro. It is a cliche with Apple stuff but really It Just Works. It’s rock hard too, in spite of my blind Mac newbie messing around I have only gotten it to crash once and it was totally my fault. Third party software is plentiful and many Windows apps and games are available for OSX also, do not look only in the Mac App Store though, better prices can frequently be found in other app stores (Steam, for example) or from a developer’s own website. Upgrading to Lion was dead easy but give it a couple hours after Lion’s done installing, it reindexes all your files and the computer runs kind of slow while this is going on.
I’ve only had this computer a week so I know I have barely scratched the surface, but already this iMac transformed a life long devout Windows man into one of those unbearable Mac people. It is every bit as easy to set up and use and just also intended as Macs are reputed to be. If you are thinking about switching, go ahead and do it, you will be happy you did!

(REAL NAME) This review is from: Apple iMac MC812LL/A 21.5 Inch Desktop (NEWEST VERSION) (Personal Computers) This iMac takes up minimal desk space, has totally no wires (except power), still still has really rocking specifications. I setup Boot Camp, so that I can dual boot to either Windows or MacOS (because I have to be able to run many Windows specific software for work). Running Windows on this machine is like watching a non HD channel on an HD TV, though.As soon as I boot to Windows, I look forward to booting back to MacOS. MacOS has the stability of Unix/Linux, but with a GUI that is more crisp and new than Windows.
The hardware is an excellent product. They do make a 27″ model, too, which looks better, at least on paper. But that big of a screen on my desk could look ridiculous. This 21″ looks a little big on my desk, but the look works, because the iMac’s look is so simple and clean.
This is the 1st Apple computer that I have ever owned (or used), and now that I own one, I can not think of a single reason that I could want to own any other computer (except to save money, obviously). If you want a better “bang for your buck”, go purchase a Dell or an HP, because they have dozens of cheap PCs under $1000. But if you want something that you are really proud of and look forward to using everyday, then go purchase this iMac.

My daughter had been using a MAC for graphic art work and I was generally impressed by the image and apparently simple commands and user interface. She convinced me to go Mac, which I did with this buy. Its fast, its comparatively easy to use (but I am still learning) and the graphics quality simply is the best I have ever seen. Most vital to me but, is the security and lack of activity I watch on my anti virus (aVast) and spy ware programs.That’s a GOOD THING! The system runs faster, totally without question. I do not want to drone on about it, but I am happy I switched, and my blood pressure went down consequently.
One thing I do miss but, is the capability to really get into the system and be able to tweak it, access all its command structure and other geek parts of Windows. Maybe there’s a way to do it with Mac, but I have not learned it still.
